Below are general details of the assessment.
It may be modified, specifically for your child, on the day.

Appointment One (~2hours)
1. Check to make sure the child has had a recent vision and hearing test.
2. Find out where learning has stalled (Literacy Assessment)
3. Check for factors relevant to dyslexia
4. Assess whether irlen Syndrome is a factor in the learning difficulties

An extensive report is mailed out within 28 days after the assessment. It is especially beneficial for teachers to receive a copy as it contains recommendations specific to your child, which can be put into place in the classroom.

The report is valued at $300 but is free as part of the assessment.

If irlen Syndrome is not a factor:

  • If the problem is instructional failure, the written report, valued at $300 included free as part of the assessment, pinpoints where the child needs remediation at school.
  • If a specific learning disability is indicated, I can refer you to an Educational Psychologist, (at Dyslexia SPELD in Perth, or a private practice), for an assessment of the learning difficulty.

If irlen Syndrome is a factor:

The correct coloured overlay is established and issued during the assessment. When a child, diagnosed with Irlen Syndrome has been using the overlays (the two- dimensional solution) for a time at school and at home, they begin to analyse what is changing on the page and how the coloured overlay makes things better for them when reading.

They are then ready to move into Irlen Spectral Filters, (glasses), that are precision-tinted for each individual, filtering out the exact wave lengths of light creating perceptual difficulties.
This will be discussed during the assessment.

Some health funds allow claims on a case-by-case situation.
(Please check with your fund to see what claims they allow).

EFTPOS is available for your convenience.
